Here's a commissioned poster I created for the graduating 2020 senior class in the Anoka-Hennepin Indian Education program. They supplied the quote as inspiration.

I did the lineart in Illustrator but colored it in Affinity Designer. Really like AD but I rarely use it on commissions, don't know why. 🙃

Artist statement for the piece:
In many tribes, the horse nation symbolizes companionship, wealth and stewardship. In this piece, the different colored horses also represent the unique journey each of us travels in life: the figure in the art piece has the world in front of them, their mind is open to knowledge that will lead them to a brighter future. #marlenamyles

People have been asking me to buy this Dakota #blacklivesmatter design on a shirt, so I put it on my Society 6 shop. I'll have it available for a couple of weeks in unisex, male- and female-fitted t-shirts, v-necks, long sleeved shirts and tank tops. Link in bio to purchase.

All profits will be donated to a charity that serves South Minneapolis; that's the neighborhood I grew up in (at Little Earth) so it's pretty sad to see the current conditions.

I have two pieces in the Red Cloud Art show at @theheritagecenter, which had its opening reception today. They're hosting the show virtually this year at www.redcloudart.show and you can buy the works online through their gift shop. Many amazing works to check out.

Congrats to everyone who entered and won. My Deer Spirit piece won first place in the Photography/Digital Art category.

To stand in solidarity with #blacklivesmatter I created this graphic that anyone is welcome to use to show their solidarity too. There are two versions available.

It's in the Dakota language and translates to Black Lives Matter. Minneapolis is Dakota homelands and we stand with BLM. (Thanks to @huhamaza for his help with the language)

There's a lot of chaos going on in real life right

There's a lot of chaos going on in real life right now (Minneapolis and St Paul riots), but still like to share that I was recently interviewed by the Washington Post and created an illustration for them.

I'm glad to have been to talk about the tightknit Native community of the twin cities (that's coming together even tighter these past few days due to the riots): I talk about what the community is doing to help elders through COVID-19, what we can learn from them and what it's like as a Native artist working in these times.

Here's a new coloring sheet to celebrate Native American Month in Minnesota. I teamed up with @tufawon (lyrics from his song Sagepatch Kid) and the Hennepin County Library to create a poster that captures the rebirth of Spring through Dakota florals (Tufawon and I are both Spirit Lake Dakota)

It is narrated by Dakota Astronomer Jim Rock, who discusses the sacred connections between the Star Nations above us and Wakan Tipi cave/ Burial Mounds at Indian Mounds Regional Park

Do you want to share a positive message of hope on a billboard like mine?? Well, guess what! @hennepintheatretrust is having an open call for 30 more additional artists to create a billboard message, so if you want to share your art, apply by May 6th on their website
