Sneak Peek Alert: Catch a look at my glow in the dark upcycled military jacket and vintage boxing gloves—pieces that pay homage to the resilience of our ancestors and the enduring strength they give us to fight to protect Grandmother Earth.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's (SMSC) first ever fashion show will explore the theme “Water Fits All” and will feature designs from Native Artists Bill Brien, Georgina Drapeau, Marlena Myles, Kayla Lookinghorse, and Jocy and Trae Little Sky. The evening will also feature DJ AO appearing as a live DJ, Redwing Thomas as emcee, a welcome reception, and more.

I’ve been busy lately, giving presentations at the Dakota County Library system and leading tours to share the deep significance of Dakota homelands and the enduring power that lies within them. Amid all this work, I was honored to receive a letter of encouragement from U.S. Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota!

I recently wrapped up a tour of sacred Dakota sites with the Minnesota Council on Foundations, co-hosted by Dawí Westerman @huhamaza , who did a great job of showcasing the significance of the Dakota language. Wopida tanka to everyone who made this experience so special: SMSC and Hoċokata Ṫi - Cultural Center and Public Exhibit, the Lower Sioux community, Dakota historians at the Lower Sioux Agency, the youth at Cansayapi Wicoicage Oti, Norman Kitto for his moving words at Little Crow's burial site in Flandreau, and the incredible teams at Pipestone National Monument and Jeffers Petroglyphs. Together, we created a one-of-a-kind experience, offering our guests a deeper understanding of Dakota history and the powerful role our culture plays in healing future generations.

This journey of learning from the land thru Dakota ways is far from over. Stay tuned for more events, and thank you all for your continued support and willingness to learn from the original people of Minnesota. Our ancestors would be proud of the positive changes we’re creating!

Sharing this piece online for the first time: I created this piece to honor Dakota stories and relationships to Uŋčí Makhá, Grandmother Earth, that are still ongoing.

In southern Minnesota, where early French mapmakers (led by Dakota guides) referred to the region as the "Land of the Water Spirits," lies a blue clay highly valued by the Dakota people for its rare pigment.

The color blue holds deep significance in Dakota spirituality, representing Škaŋ, the spirit of motion, who is one of the four primary sacred beings. Škaŋ is symbolized by the sky—an ethereal blue presence that breathes life into all living things and governs all that moves. The phrase Táku Wakháŋ Škaŋ Škaŋ refers to the sacred motion of the universe, a constant, powerful force that flows through everything.

This blue clay is believed to embody a connection between the earth and the sky, bridging the material and the immaterial. It is seen as an expression of Škaŋ's spirit, who separated from the waters—the "blood" of the Great Spirit—to animate the world. Thus, this clay is more than a natural resource; it is a manifestation of the sacred movement that ties the elements of life together. It protects the person who wears it on their body.

Mankato, MN is the misspelling of the Dakota name for the location. Makhátho (Blue Earth) is the actual name. #indigenouspeoplesday #honornativeland #mankato #minnesota #dakotanation

The gathering of community stories continued today with my stop at the Kaposia library during my artist in residency with the Dakota County libraries. It was great seeing the Dakota language & our history that honors my ancestors and their village of Kaposia!

What a beautiful conclusion to this year's Dakota

What a beautiful conclusion to this year's Dakota Legacy Boat Cruise on the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers! Since our first cruise last year, we’ve had the honor of welcoming over 650 people. The response has been truly inspiring, and we know our ancestors would be happy and proud that we’re coming together to share and celebrate our stories on the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, honoring their legacies while creating our own.

As we approached Bdote, where the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers meet, the sun and moon watched over us together. This sacred place, the cosmic origin and creation site of the Dakota people, filled our hearts with a powerful sense of connection~

I’m deeply moved by those who tell me how much they’ve learned from the cruise and how it continues to resonate with them long after. These rivers hold significance not just for the Dakota but for everyone who calls this land home and we are glad to teach the importance inorder to protect these waters for future generations. We hope to see you all again next year!

Every day, I work to honor my ancestors and pave the way for future generations! Soon this cradleboard (hand carved by @huhamaza) will be completed with the šičúŋ (star gift) of those whose tracks we follow while creating new paths for those who will follow us (see my last post if you want to join in)

Also excited to share that my documentary "Realms of Resilience" has been picked up by TPT and will be airing on television in Minnesota starting this November! I'll share more when it's closer but you can watch it anytime on allarts.org~

Wodakota Walk is now on view at the @caponiartpark : An augmented reality installation featuring 5 stops that opens your eyes to building Wodakota -- the Dakota value of living in harmony with the natural world, the supernatural work and with all living things. It is also the translation of the word "treaty" into Dakota language and still an active principle we must strive for a human beings.

Exciting news! As a board member at The Museum of

Exciting news! As a board member at The Museum of Russian Art @themuseumofrussianart in Minneapolis, I recently suggested offering free admission for Indigenous people—and they’ve already updated the website to make it happen!

During my solo exhibition there, the museum loved seeing so many Indigenous folks come through and are eager to keep welcoming our community. Let’s keep showing up and supporting the arts in our community~

They also have an upcoming workshop to write letters of support to detainees in Russia who were imprisoned for protesting the war in Ukraine and write to US voters to protect democracy here! (Second slide)

PS This is the second institution that has made admission for Indigenous peoples after I've asked while working with them. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is the other! Every cultural/art institution should consider their ability to build community and honor Native land/peoples by removing such barriers! #honornativeland
